Introducing to DSLR cameras

  • DSLR stands for digital single-lens reflex
  • It basically means a camera with one lens and a mirror which reflects the light, where pictures are recorded on a digital card instead of film

To get started best to use the automatic settings
  •  Set the dial to the green automatic mode.
  •  Make sure the lens is set to AF and not MF
  •  Push the shutter button down halfway – the camera will automatically focus on the subject
  •  Push the button down the rest of the way to take the picture

  •  Exposure is the amount of light a digital camera's sensor captures when a photo is a taken.
  • Too much light results in a washed out
Aperture
  • The aperture settings controls the size of the lens opening that allows light into your camera
  • You can blur the foreground and background that bracket your subject (known as shallow depth of field)by opening up the aperture with a low f-stop number
  • Alternatively, you can keep your photo sharp from the foreground through to the background (known as wide depth of field) by closing the aperture down with a high f-stop number
Shutter speed
  • Controls how long the shutter opens to exposed the image sensor to that light
  • Open it just for a millisecond & you can freeze a fast moving object
  • Alternatively, you can show the movement of a fast-moving subject by keeping it open longer with a slow shutter speed

Evaluation: Question 6

Q: What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? The Internet I used the internet throughout for our prelim task and main task mainly for research and when finding background music for our main task. Using the BFI Statistical Yearbook site, I gathered statistical information such as facts and figures to help gather research in relation to our choice of genre and our target audience. I also used Wikipedia to research existing horror/thriller films to get an understanding of what type of conventions a popular horror film has and their elements as well as looking at different distribution companies.  Camera We used the CANON 500D to film our film opening. The camera was quite lightweight meaning it was easy to hold for long periods of time as our shots were hand-held. I learnt how to handle the camera, which settings were the correct ones to choose and other important elements. This helped throughout the process because a...
