Preliminary Task: Basic Treatments

Intro
Olivia and I are working together on the Preliminary Task, and we have approached two other students of the 6th form to help us on the task. Here below shows the film treatment we have been set to do, so we have a clear idea how to carry out this task.

Characters
Ella - (6th form student)
Sam - (6th form student)

Synopsis
Somebody has stolen Ella's money that she owed Sam and Sam isn't very happy about it. A huge arguement takes place and a friendship is put to the test.
Film Techniques
Shots incorporated within the task:

- Medium long shot
- Shot/reverse shot
Camera Angles incorporated within the task: 
- High Angle
- Low Angle
- Pan 
- Slow Zoom
- 180 degree rule

Production Considerations
Lighting: 
- High key lighting throughout
Movement:
- As Sam walks outside up to the building and opens the door
- Around the table
- As Ella walks out the door
Costumes:
- Normal school clothes for Ella and Sam

Q: What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? The Internet I used the internet throughout for our prelim task and main task mainly for research and when finding background music for our main task. Using the BFI Statistical Yearbook site, I gathered statistical information such as facts and figures to help gather research in relation to our choice of genre and our target audience. I also used Wikipedia to research existing horror/thriller films to get an understanding of what type of conventions a popular horror film has and their elements as well as looking at different distribution companies.  Camera We used the CANON 500D to film our film opening. The camera was quite lightweight meaning it was easy to hold for long periods of time as our shots were hand-held. Evaluation: Question 2

How does your media product represent particular social groups? Many horror movies have a rating of either 15 or 18, due to the graphic content such as blood, gore, sexual themes etc. Our target audience is teens but does not include any references to blood, gore or sexual themes. One way our media product represents social groups is through mise-en-scene. The actors are usually on their mobile phones where it is teens stereotypically for teens to be quite anti-social and always texting or communicating on their smartphones. Also, the setting shows a young social group as in an alley you wouldn't tend to find adults unless they are walking through whereas teens use this type of place to get up to trouble and all sorts. The setting is important as it creates a narrative and creates enigma such as the audience wondering "Why are they there", "What are they doing there" and to think a bad event is about to happen.
