Planning Process: Preliminary & Main Task

Q: Describe the planning process and what was involved:

For the planning process of our Preliminary, I and Olivia made a film treatment which briefly explains the task planning and published on our blogs. Such elements of the film treatment were things such as character, synopsis, camera shots
etc.

Q: How did the planning benefit you?

Planning did help whilst filming as what props was needed for that specific scene, camera shots and other important elements from using the storyboard which we had created together. The dialogue was well implemented because Olivia and I produced a script for the characters to study from so that they knew what actions they had to perform and what they had needed to say. In conclusion, planning made a successful outcome as it was a good source of guidance.

Evaluation: Question 6

Q: What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? The Internet I used the internet throughout for our prelim task and main task mainly for research and when finding background music for our main task. Using the BFI Statistical Yearbook site, I gathered statistical information such as facts and figures to help gather research in relation to our choice of genre and our target audience. I also used Wikipedia to research existing horror/thriller films to get an understanding of what type of conventions a popular horror film has and their elements as well as looking at different distribution companies.  Camera We used the CANON 500D to film our film opening. The camera was quite lightweight meaning it was easy to hold for long periods of time as our shots were hand-held. I learnt how to handle the camera, which settings were the correct ones to choose and other important elements. This helped throughout the process because a...

Evaluation: Question 2

How does your media product represent particular social groups? Many horror movies have a rating of either 15 or 18, due to the graphic content such as blood, gore, sexual themes etc. Our target audience is teens but does not include any references to blood, gore or sexual themes. One way our media product represents social groups is through mise-en-scene. The actors are usually on their mobile phones where it is teens stereotypically for teens to be quite anti-social and always texting or communicating on their smartphones. Also, the setting shows a young social group as in an alley you wouldn't tend to find adults unless they are walking through whereas teens use this type of place to get up to trouble and all sorts. The setting is important as it creates a narrative and creates enigma such as the audience wondering "Why are they there", "What are they doing there" and to think a bad event is about to happen. The clothes work by the actors are casual, ty...
