Evaluation: Question 2

How does your media product represent particular social groups? Many horror movies have a rating of either 15 or 18, due to the graphic content such as blood, gore, sexual themes etc. Our target audience is teens but does not include any references to blood, gore or sexual themes. One way our media product represents social groups is through mise-en-scene. The actors are usually on their mobile phones where it is teens stereotypically for teens to be quite anti-social and always texting or communicating on their smartphones. Also, the setting shows a young social group as in an alley you wouldn't tend to find adults unless they are walking through whereas teens use this type of place to get up to trouble and all sorts. The setting is important as it creates a narrative and creates enigma such as the audience wondering "Why are they there", "What are they doing there" and to think a bad event is about to happen. The clothes work by the actors are casual, ty...

Planning Process: Preliminary & Main Task

Q: Describe the planning process and what was involved: For the planning process of our Preliminary, I and Olivia made a film treatment which briefly explains the task planning and published on our blogs. Such elements of the film treatment were things such as character, synopsis, camera shots etc.  Q: How did the planning benefit you? Planning did help whilst filming as what props was needed for that specific scene, camera shots and other important elements from using the storyboard which we had created together. The dialogue was well implemented because Olivia and I produced a script for the characters to study from so that they knew what actions they had to perform and what they had needed to say. In conclusion, planning made a successful outcome as it was a good source of guidance.

Basic Treatments: Main Task

Working Title Olivia and I chose to name the title as 'Unknown' reason being why we chose this as our title because the 'stalker' which is shown following Liv,  contacts Liv through text message and as the message appears as 'Unknown'. Genre The chosen genre for our film opening is horror/thriller. Having done some research we concluded that horror and thriller is a very top rated genre in relation to films and are very successful - as shown in the BFI Statistical Yearbook research.  Central Theme Our film will be in relation to the themes of social media stalking and vulnerability.  Synopsis A young girl and a group of friends receive strange messages and images from an unknown number. The girls don't take the messages into much consideration so they ignore the situation. The mystery continues and leads up to all 4 girls going missing one by one. Pitch Our film will be rated 15 because we think this is the suitable age rat...

Editing Journal

Olivia and I began filming footage pieces for our film opening titled the "UKNOWN" on the 22nd January and had completed all filming by the 24th January. We then began editing the next following day on the 25th using iMac computers and using the editing software called Adobe Premiere Pro and had finished editing on the 27th.  Firstly, we had transferred all of our footage that we gathered on to the iMac where we then chose selectively which clips to keep and which to delete so it makes the editing stage a lot easier.   After selecting all the clips we wanted, we saved some footage elsewhere in case if needed. We did this just in case once all of our editings were completed and the storyline had something missing we could include those clips or use snippets of those extra clips. We then put the clips into the desired order on the Adobe Premiere Pro timeline. We then made some edits to the clips such as cutting to shorten the clips, adding fonts and colours for our credits...
